RACING HOTTER THAN MOTER NATURE AT BUTLER MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Quincy
MI (July 20, 2002) Butler Motor Speedway was the place to be Saturday night,
where racing was at its finest. The heat
of the summer caused the drivers to be a little more aggressive than usual. In
Heat 2 lap 1 Bentley Shaw hit the wall in turn 3 as he was trying to pass Mark
Pifer and Randy Archer who was just returning to the track after an accident a
month ago which destroyed his car and broke his arm. With only his fender bent
Shaw returned to the race for a restart.
Lap 1 of the restart the three cars got tangle up again, this time
Archer and Pifer left the race and Shaw stayed in until he got to turn 2 where
he hit the wall and left the race but returned for the “B” Main to place
9th. Mark Pifer and Randy Archer both
returned for the “B” Main to place 13 and 14 respectively. The “A” Main saw Terry Sroufe in the pole
position, where he stayed to finish 1st. In lap 11 Tim Stott took
the 2nd position from Tim Wilber, but Tim was not ready to give up
in lap 12 he over took Tim Stott. Tim
Wilber and Tim Stott fought for the 2nd position and when the
checkered flag came down Tim Stott was the owner of 2nd place
followed by Tim Wilber, Ryan Gorey, Kenny Stoker, Linc Stevens, Marv Burroughs,
Zac Davis, Rich Neiser and Scott Gaff.
Winners of the “B” Main race were Rich Neiser, Rick Startout, Rob
Brenneman, Bryan Koebbe and Bob Flinn. Heat 1winner was your points leader so
far this year Terry Sroufe, Heat 2 was Scott Gaff and Heat 3 was Tim Stott.
Sprint
car driver Ken Mackey of the 25M car from Manitou Beach MI is having just an
outstanding season, he is currently the points leader and with the weekend he
has had he will continue to be the points leader. Saturday night Ken took first in the “A” Main
feature over Chad Blonde, in lap 14 both drivers were battling for 1st
both drivers had air lifting up under their cars and the front of their cars
were bouncing for all they were worth.
Both drivers were determined to be 1st but under the
checkered flag were Ken Mackey as the winner for the night, Ken also was the
Sprint winner on Friday night at Hartford Speedway. Following behind Ken and Chad was Jeff
Rankin, Steve Zabonick, Bob Dooley John Massey, Dave Fox, Steve Phillips, Mike
Schumacher and Corey Brevard. “B” Main
winners were Bob Dooley, Dave Fox, Scott Bailey, Steve Phillips and Doug
Zimmerman. Heat winners were Chad Blonde, Mike Schumaker and Bob Thoms.
Number
71 Kevin Reeve was in the pole position to start the Street Stock “A” Main
feature race. He was leading the pack
until lap 12 when he and Jeff Beaty crashed in the backstretch and both cars
left the race. Paul Smith seen this as
an opportunity to take over where Kevin left off. This was not foreign territory for Paul and
his 1955 Chevy, as he has already had one “A” Main win at Butler this season.
So he followed what he knew and held this position until the checkered flag was
waving. Steve Denbrock was following tight
behind but was not able to take 1st away from Paul, following behind
was Jamie Campbell, Eric Wilson who is currently your points leader in Street
Stock, Jeff Wadsworth, Glenn Heath, AJ Burns JR, Eric Swan, Camerson Spieth and
Tod Thoms. “B” Main 1 winners were
Cameron Spieth, John Reeve, Kirk Riska, Art Roggow and Eric Loveland. “B” Main 2 winners were Doug Mc Lachlan, Bob
Littlejohn, Steve Kidney JR, Randy Patton and Rob Lammon. Heat winners were Kevin Reeve, Jeff
Wadsworth, Eric Wilson, Mark George and Paul Smith.
